LeRonne Armstrong
City Council Candidate At Large
No candidate for City Council better understands Oakland’s public safety needs and how to address those needs than former Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong. LeRonne was born and raised in the projects of West Oakland. He joined the Oakland police Department as a patrol officer and rose through the ranks to become the police chief.
As the Chief of Police, LeRonne actively worked to gain the support of Oakland’s diverse communities. He earned the recognition and support of virtually every Oakland demographic because he proactively engaged communities throughout the city. When he was terminated by a newly elected mayor, mass rallies were held calling on the mayor to reinstate him. Ultimately, he was exonerated when it was determined that he did nothing wrong that justified his termination.
LeRonne is committed to fully staffing the police department and ending the record crime levels that are currently decimating the city. In public interviews he has acknowledged that the budget crisis that engulfs the city will not allow full staffing immediately, so he pledges to work with county and state resources to help Oakland until a new majority on the city council can guide Oakland back in the right direction.
In our SOS Oakland interviews, LeRonne impressed us with his knowledge of how the city operates on many different fronts. He confidently asserts that he and a new majority on the Council can bring the change that is needed to end Oakland’s downward death spiral.
